Cheshire based management and leadership recruitment company McCarthy Recruitment is celebrating the incredible achievement of winning first place in the highly coveted UK Best Workplaces ™ Award (small business category) for the third year running.
The Warrington based company should have learned of its success at the awards ceremony originally due to take place at London’s Tobacco Dock on the 29th of April. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s UK’s Best Workplaces™ list has been announced online instead.
The Best Workplaces ™ Awards are run by the Great Place to Work ® Institute. They are acknowledged to be the gold standard of employer awards, highlighting companies that are recognised for their excellence in creating exceptional, high-performing, high-trust workplaces. All organisations are ranked using the Great Place to Work’s Trust Index® survey to assess employee opinion, plus its Culture Audit® tool which is a business-driven questionnaire designed to uncover and evaluate each company’s HR and leadership practices, policies and culture.
Established in 2005, McCarthy Recruitment specialises in leadership and professional recruitment services. Its team provides expertise in assessing capability and cultural fit to deliver recruitment services and behavioural leadership consultancy. Having initially focused on leadership and managerial recruitment in the retail sector, the business has since expanded to also recruit for other sectors including hospitality, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution. It also specialises in finding talent for head office vacancies including HR and buying and merchandising positions.
Founder and Chair Kate McCarthy-Booth comments, “Winning the Best Workplaces ™ Award is an incredible achievement and it’s given us a massive boost during these difficult times. We were blown away when it sank in that we’d won it for the third year in a row! We’ve always had a highly people-centric approach and a culture that’s built on mutual trust and that’s been a big contributor to our success. Winning an award that endorses all that, and recognises the fantastic team we have, is amazing.
“In March, McCarthy Recruitment celebrated its 15th birthday and it was a great opportunity to reflect on everything the company’s achieved in that time, including the awards we’ve won. Obviously not long after that, the pandemic took hold and it’s become a really tough time for many businesses out there. But the team is continuing to work closely with our clients when they need us and we’re concentrating on helping them in every way we can.
“It’s not just the clients we’re supporting either. Many candidates need a helping hand at such a difficult and stressful time too. We know it can be really daunting, especially if they hadn’t been planning to change jobs, so we’re running free sessions to support anyone looking for a new role, covering any sector where help’s needed.”
Managing Director Ian McMullin says, “It would, of course, have been fantastic for the team to go along to accept the award in London, but not being able to do that certainly doesn’t diminish what a brilliant accomplishment this is for the McCarthy team.
“I’m extremely proud of every single one of them – and now more than ever, their positive attitudes, flexibility, and tenacity mean the world to us during this difficult time for everyone. Although we have had to furlough some of the team, we’re focused on keeping going. We’ve always had fun together, so we’re finding ways to do that online with activities like our Zoom social nights and quizzes. It’s really important that even though we’re physically apart, we feel like we are together.”
As a result of winning the UK award, McCarthy Recruitment is now on the shortlist for the 2020 European Best Workplaces™ award, with the winner to be announced later this year. The Best Workplaces™ publication, featuring all 162 ranked organisations across the categories, will also be distributed via The Guardian and The Sunday Telegraph.
