I joined McCarthy Recruitment after a career in Retail management across furniture, food, consumer electronics and DIY. I was stuck in middle management and was frustrated by the old dilemma of working long hours for little reward, hoping for the next step if my results were noticed and face fitted. I came in to the office to conduct a work trial where I could see what the job actually involved. I had a pre-conception of what I thought a Recruitment Consultant was, what they would look like and how they would talk which wasn’t massively favorable to be honest. Within 10 minutes of being here I knew McCarthy was different – it was a business made up of down to earth people; ex-retailers who were passionate about people with a clear set of ethics and very distinct set of personal and business values.

The way a company operates has always been important to me and I knew from my work trial, which has proven absolutely true throughout my career to date, that I could be proud of what we do and how we do it. Having taken the brave step with the support of my wife and daughter to join the business I can honestly say it has been entirely life changing in all the very best ways. My personal goal has always been to live a ‘life less ordinary’, not to be a ‘lifeless ordinary’ and at McCarthy Recruitment that’s exactly what I’m doing. I can be the husband, dad and individual I want to be and the smarter and harder I work, the better I get and the more I achieve. I have never worked in a business that is so directly rewarding – you are your own business. That gives great accountability and responsibility but in return you get a life that I could only dream of in Retail.

staff-ian.jpgI joined McCarthy following a successful retail management career as a senior manager in the food sector. After meeting Kate and the team, I didn’t have single doubt that this was the right move for me and I haven't looked back since.

Kate's thirst for excellence linked with her capacity to truly understand her people never fails to inspire me. I joined the business as a consultant, soon after this Kate entrusted me with a key account, a team of my own to manage and provided me with a bag-full of support and guidance to help me succeed.

What has most impressed me about McCarthy is our adaptability to change, and having the opportunity to shape the future alongside everybody who works within the business. We are a team of retailers which makes our environment fun, challenging and every day is different.

staff-liz.jpgI’ve known Kate for a number of years before joining McCarthy in 2009 and have worked in the recruitment industry for 12 years prior to this so I have watched the business grow from both perspectives. No other recruitment agency is like McCarthy but from a personal level, I have never had such development and support. I have achieved my most successful sales figures in the last three years and this is due to the culture of the business, the fact that the team have a say in the way the business is moulded and shaped and our values; passionate, clever and together.

I joined the McCarthy Group after 16 years in travel and 8 years in New Media and I could not have found a more perfect job or Company to utilize all of my skills from my career background.  In my role as Sales Support Manager and Personal Assistant to Kate McCarthy I am able to drive outstanding support and service to all internal staff, candidates and clients.  No two days are ever the same and I am continuously learning and challenged which I absolutely love!  The rewards for hard work are incredible which I experienced in 2014 with a weekend away to Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir Aux Quat'saisons hotel and restaurant which was truly a once in a lifetime experience.  There is an amazing culture and support network through the business where we all work clever, passionately and together!
