ASDA slammed for STRONG cider labelling

ASDA has had to change the label on their own brand cider after it was deemed to be glamorising the alcoholic strength of the cider with a label that had the word ‘STRONG' in bold and prominently placed on the bottle. ASDA have acted quickly to rectify the issue after agreeing that the labelling gives the wrong message.

This isn't the first time that ASDA have been in trouble with the Portman Group, who cover the code of practice governing naming, packaging and advertising of alcoholic drinks. In 2007 they were forced to removed a pack they were selling that contained not only an alcoholic drink but also a teddy bear, giving a clearly mixed message by the brand.

An Asda spokesowoman says: "We are grateful to the Portman Group for raising this issue with us last year. We take our responsibility as an alcohol retailer very seriously, which is why we acted immediately to redesign the label."
