The UK Hugo Boss franchise has been operated by Moss Bros since the early 1990’s.
Hugo Boss has been successfully asserting and expanding its position as a global market leader in the upscale fashion market for many years. The Hugo Boss brands encompass all key fashion areas, ranging from classic clothing, evening and leisurewear to functional sportswear and complementary accessories. Licensed products such as eyewear, watches, fragrances and cosmetics further enhance our collections.
Hugo Boss products are available worldwide in over 100 countries. Hugo Boss the name denotes success, perfection and a style that transcends international borders.
Moss Boss history can be traced back to 1851 in London’s Covent Garden. Two small shops leased by Moses Moses formed the beginnings of a company that has become a major fashion retailer.
Even in the early days the company shrewdly bought spare suits from fashionable Savile Row tailors. This was the start of what is now known as Moss Bross Hire service, which now operates in most high streets in the country and hires out suits across the country for occasions from weddings to race meetings.
A major landmark for the company was reached in 1947 when Moss Bross became a public company.
As the swinging sixties progressed, the company grew to 100 stores across the country.
In 1987 Moss Bross founded The Suit Company, a chain of shops specialising in suits and accessories.
A major change in the company was the merger with Cecil Gee, which brought it prestigious names as Beale & Inman in New Bon Street and Savoy Taylors Guild, with its flagship store next to the Savoy Hotel in London’s Strand. Rowland Gee, whose father founded and named the Cecil Gee chain, became Managing Director of the newly formed Moss Bros Group.
Acquisitions followed, beginning with Dormie in 1992 and then the Blazer chain of shops from Storehouse in 1996.
Franchise agreements with Hugo Boss and the world famous Italian designer brand Canali allow the group to operate stand-alone stores in this country. There are now ten Hugo Boss stores and a prestigious site for Canali in New Bond Street.
In the new millennium Moss Bros Hire opened its first hire concession on Cunard’s QE2 cruise liner in 2003. The group has also announced a partnership with Ascot Racecourse to produce the Royal Ascot Collection.
Moss Direct, the first internet and mail order division was launched in August 2005.
Today, Moss Bros company values remain the same, as does the Group’s commitment to quality service and products. A unique heritage, rooted in the 19th century carried Moss Bros with great success through the 20th century. In the 21st century, the legacy of the original founders will underpin future achievements in bringing the very best in tailoring to the widest selection of customers.
The group believe there are a further 80 locations within the UK where Moss can trade profitably. In 2006, 8 new stores opened, and 5 are planned for this year.
The new Cecil Gee concept rollout reached 6 stores in 2006. These stores have been performing extremely well.
Cecil Gee, the pioneer of the multi-brand independent, regards itself as a 'brand editor'. The contemporary product mix combined with interpretations of seasonal trends and imaginative in-store and window creatives gives Cecil Gee it's unique point of view. Today, the branded designer menswear retailer operates 16 stores nationwide and is embarking on a national roll-out of its power store concept.
