We started to work with the McCarthy team 2 years ago when my area was experiencing a huge expansion and we had exhausted our pool of internal succession. They provide all levels of management and customer advisor teams for all stores and critically for our new store opening programme which will see 20 stores open this year. They provide an end to end service which is hassle free and extremely cost effective. McCarthy took the time with Hotter to understand us as individuals, the type of people that we wanted within are business but also what we are trying to achieve within the brand and on the high street. What that has meant is that we have got a lot better quality within are stores rather than the numbers that we were sent by other recruitment companies. As with many retailers we are contacted by other recruitment companies to see if their services will better or enhance what we have got already but I have to say with McCarthy they are nowhere near, and that is the reason why moving forward we will continue to use them as our preferred partner.

I am responsible for store across the UK, the retail functions and the teams that work within the stores. When we open a new store in a new town because we are doing recruitment in large numbers in a short period of time the biggest challenge for us is retaining the quality. Since working with McCarthy the quality of staff we now get coming through our doors are all people that are passionate about customer service but without question passionate about the outdoors witch is key to our business. The quality of teams that we have been able to recruit has been a real contributory factor to our new stores hitting the ground really quickly and exceeding our targets particulary within those early weeks.

We have an on-going relationship with McCarthy Retail for our Store Management roles which they deliver on time every time for us however this year we have had a need for some more senior appointments in the business which has involved an extensive search and selection campaign to ensure we found top class talent to join the business.  We have worked on a retained basis with Kate to allow her to give us total focus on this project and enable her team to leave no stone unturned in the search for the right people.  From the outset I had confidence that whilst it may take a little time to find what we were looking for that a thoroughly professional and detailed search and selection process was under way and that if a candidate was shortlisted for me to see that they would be ticking all the boxes.  I was not disappointed, the candidates presented were genuinely at the top of the tree, the decision on who to take forward and eventually appoint was a challenging one however a reflection of the work put in to find some great calibre people.  We have embarked on a subsequent retained assignment for another region and I have every confidence in Kate and her team that she will deliver the quality again.

We were struggling to attract the right talent in the right volume to our business and had vacancies across a number of departments and roles but unfortunately didn’t have a huge budget to spend on recruitment.  We were recommended to speak to McCarthy Retail by another retail business who had been using their advertising services and had some great results from the candidates generated.  The service they offered was simplicity in itself, they took a detailed job brief, understood exactly what we were looking for, and produced some great adverts that truly reflected our business culture.  The volume of responses was high, far more than we ever received ourselves when we advertised and the additional sifting service we chose was really useful as we just logged in to our advert and all the candidates had been shortlisted for us against the job role and candidates that didn’t fit the bill had automatically been informed……….saved me hours of legwork!  The overall success rate was amazing, we owned the candidates from the response and made further hires from this pool of talent a month later following further expansion within the business.  The service from McCarthy was fantastic, the system itself was simple and easy to operate and I felt that I was still able to tap in to the retail expertise that McCarthy pride themselves on however at a % rate that we could afford for our business.

As an established UK retailer we have a very successful internal recruitment team in place however there are always vacancies that require extensive headhunting that we just don’t have the time or resource to focus on.  We also have some areas of the UK where we have a consistent need for talent however the volume of good applications doesn’t match to the volume of people we need so again a pro-active headhunt approach is required to talent bank in these areas.  We have used McCarthy for exactly this, we brief them on specific projects either in specific areas or across whole regions and they deliver the headhunt approach on our behalf, effectively as an extension of our business.  From the work they do on a daily rate they produce a list of ‘warm’ contacts with all of their contact details so we can spend our valuable time with a selected list of interested candidates.  The results from this have been very positive, in some areas the contacts have led to multiple hires and allowed us to generate strength on the bench within key regions which will serve us well in to future months and trading periods.  The service McCarthy provide and their professionalism whilst dealing with candidates on our behalf has been second to none and I will not hesitate to continue working with them for our headhunting requirements.
