Here’s a chance to meet a few of the people who deliver the McCarthy difference to our clients and candidates. Where some recruitment agencies would give you the opportunity to meet only the key people, everybody at McCarthy is key. Each member of the McCarthy team is integral to the success and development of the company – and equally, McCarthy plays a vital role in the success and development of each career, no matter how senior or junior.
But whatever the background, experience or skills, every member of our team has one thing in common: they will all go the extra mile when it counts.
So you can trust us to do what it takes to really understand the right candidate ‘fit’ for your business and then deliver an exceptional quality of candidate. Every time.
It’s what the McCarthy difference is all about.
I joined McCarthy following a successful retail management career with not a single doubt that this was the right move for me. I haven't looked back since, Kate's thirst for excellence linked with her capacity to truly understand her people never fails to inspire me. I joined the business as a consultant, soon after this Kate entrusted me with a key account, a team of my own to manage and provided me with a bag-full of support and guidance to help me succeed. What has most impressed me about McCarthy is our adaptability to change, and having the opportunity to shape the future alongside everybody who works within the business.
The future is exciting, having spent 9 months supporting the business in the role of Learning and Development Manager I am now managing the entire Retail Division and delivering great service and results to some of our biggest clients. Spending time with clients out in their business, delivering 1:2 candidate success ratios on national accounts and supporting volume recruitment campaigns are the norm at McCarthy and challenges that motivate me on a day to day basis. I have a passion for developing people, seeing them achieve in their lives and grow within our business. The opportunities here are endless and working for Kate and her brand is the most rewarding feeling I've come across in my career.

I have been with McCarthy Recruitment for almost 2 years and before joining I was already working within retail recruitment and had heard great things about the business. I was particularly impressed by the company values and vision and after meeting Kate I was totally bought into her as an individual and felt excited about where the company was going.
Since joining, I have been on a journey of personal development and growth and feel that I am really able to contribute to the business and help shape its future. One of my biggest achievements was winning ‘Employee of the year 2008'. I am proud to say that I work for McCarthy Recruitment and I feel we really do have the best team and the best Managing Director.
Nicola.
Since joining McCarthy in early 2005 I have been very lucky to have been a part of it's growth and success. Kate McCarthy has always been clear about our vision and our values as a business, making our commitment to both client and candidate satisfaction truly unique in our industry. I am extremely proud to work for McCarthy Recruitment and am very thankful to Kate for her ongoing support to me and the rest of her team, and for allowing us all to share in her drive and passion for our business. Since having my Daughter last year and relocating to Cornwall, I have continued to work for McCarthy as a remote senior consultant, which has worked really well for both myself and our business. I still make regular trips to the Manchester office or out to see a client, which keeps me in touch with the outside world. People always say I am really lucky to be working from home but I love my days in the office as our team culture is second to none and it feels a great privilege to be a part of that.
Jenny.
I have worked for McCarthy Recruitment since we launched and I feel proud to have been part of its development. Kate started the business to offer a more superior and personal service within retail recruitment, which she has certainly achieved. When I approached Kate for a job I had no recruitment experience and it was refreshing to be interviewed by someone who wanted to know about my personality and what I would offer her business. It is amazing to have experienced the growth of our business, I love working for Kate, her approach to management and the business is so refreshing and she cares about her team. The business is challenging, driven and focussed on performance and I have learnt so much about myself as well how to recruit great retail managers! I look forward to seeing what will happen over the next 2 years!

Our Managing Director Kate McCarthy appeared at the 3rd Annual Recruiter Forum 2009 in London on April 23rd. Kate was invited to speak at the event to share her experiences of developing strong client relationships and was excited to share her experiences with the delegates. This year the Recruiter Forum, next year, The White House ! Here is what Roger Philby of Chemistry thought about Kate's presentation:
As some of you may know I am fairly scathing of our industry, I therefore have traditionally shunned industry get togethers, shindigs and official bodies such as REC. However today I attend and spoke at the Recruiter Forum (well run, well put together by the great team at Recruiter).
However with the encouragement of the irrepressible DeeDee Doke and her fine staff at Recruiter and Resourcing magazines I have slowly begun to engage with the great unwashed out there in other recruitment companies. However my fears to a certain extent have been confirmed...of all the people I have met so far, only two and their organisations stand out.
Firstly Kate McCarthy at McCarthy recruitment, WOW here's a lady that get's it, she absolutely rocks. Value set is great, passionately believes in what she does...love it. If I was a retail company I would run to McCarthy recruitment; do exactly what Kate and her team tell me to and pay her whatever she wants for doing it.
Secondly Claire Owen at StopGap. I am like a sponge around Claire, every moment with her is a huge learning experience. Again if i was hiring marketers or I was a marketer...forget the big blue company...they have nothing on Claire and her gang.
The interesting thing about both these great women is that they have built their entire organisation and proposition around values, values which they don't compromise and drive all of their business decisions. Those values are about people and how you treat them. They lead with the view that if we are open and honest with our own employees, treat them as we would want to be treated and are constant role models for the right behaviour, shockingly our people will be the same with both our clients and our candidates.
Staggering news, I know.
But i have to say I attended the Recruiter Forum today. Great event, some great presentations from Kate and also Chris from Chess, who I plan on getting to know better. However one presentation was entirely god awful, no truly, like taking 10 steps back and a shuddering reminder of how bad our industry is. I shall refrain from naming the culprit but it is him and dinosaurs like him (and there were more than a few there today) that we should remove from our industry.
So here's to Kate, Claire and the others like them (there has to be more), they will be the leaders standing at the end of this recession; as their client relationships are deep and their own people will follow them to hell and back.
R
PS: I should also pop a mention to Martin Dangerfield, who whilst doesn't have the size of business Kate and Claire have built, is still driving his clients to look at the world of recruitment differently.
